Engineered Metal Products
Specifications Some of the most common mistakes in the design process occur in the specifications. In the current market, many architects and designers use software programs to craft their specifications. While this is generally a wonderful tool that allows us to describe the quality of the products with which we build, it can be double-edge sword. Keeping all of the information in a specification section up-to-date is a significant challenge. This challenge is compounded in our particular market niche of custom metal fabrication. How do you create a specification section(s) that's accurate yet still allows you the freedom to describe quality of the products you require? Because of the complexity of our work, we encourage architects and designers to work with us during the design phase. This interaction gives us a chance to help craft the appropriate contract documents. For example, it's not uncommon for us to see a job with the wrong gauge (thickness) of metal specified. That may sound like a simple mistake but how can the architect or designer know what gauge to use without consulting someone with the expertise and experience to provide a professional opinion? There are many other common pit falls in current specification writing. For example, some of the software applications list products or companies that are no longer part of our market. We encourage you to craft your specification and let us review it before you issue it for bidding. We always appreciate the chance to assist architects and designers deliver the best products and services possible.
